Sherri Duskey Rinker is the author of two #1 bestselling picture books, Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site and Steam Train, Dream Train. Cumulatively, these two books have spent nearly five years on the NYT Bestseller List.Sherri resides in the Chicago suburbs and works full-time writing books for kids and presenting around the country to both children and adults.
The Children’s PB Fiction author has recently released another book entitled Silly Wonderful You, which is essentially a love letter from a parent to a child. “Before YOU came along, so many things were different! But now there’s a giggly baby, a house full of adventures and toys, a million little surprises. . . . And so much (unconditional) love.”
Rinker admits that it took her some time to realize that writing was her calling: “I’ve always been aware that I have a “thing” for words… but my calling? Hmm… probably not until Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site had spent sometime on the NYT Bestseller List.”
Writer’s block isn’t a huge issue for Sherri: “My problem is not writer’s block — it’s more often finding the TIME to write uninterrupted. (Did I mention that I have a husband, two kids, a house, a dog, a hedgehog, a garden…).” She also revealed that she doesn’t force herself to write everyday: “I write when I have something to say. I don’t write every day. I, sometimes, don’t write for weeks at a time, and then write obsessively.”
Who are some of Rinker’s favorite authors? “Virginia Lee Burton, Judy Schachner, Kate DiCamillo, Katherine Applegate, JK Rowling. Oh, and I thought Markus Zusak’s “The Book Thief” was genius. One of my all¬time favorites.”
Rinker believes that “spreading kindness and love yields contentment and fulfillment.” – We couldn’t agree more! This author puts her heart and soul into everything she does and embraces her work with the purest spirit.
“I’m grateful every day to do what I do. I don’t love my job, I’m IN LOVE with my job. I’m truly blessed.”
